Tony Scaddan holds a black belt

Energy and motivation are key attributes for a good sales manager, and Tony Scaddan has them in abundance.

Although he’s based in the Haverhill office, most of Tony Scaddan’s time is spent in his car. The HID Global Area Sales Manager is constantly on the go, meeting customers and prospects throughout the UK and Ireland and staying connected to the office through his BlackBerry.

“I enjoy the challenges my job presents, and I get to travel all over the country,” says Tony, who is part of a team of six in the UK. He also likes to get “stuck into a project” as it allows him to be creative and use his initiative to get the job done.

Since starting at HID as area sales manager for the UK South, his territory has expanded with added responsibility and larger-revenue accounts to look after.

Tony, who has been at HID for about three years, previously worked as a security engineer specializing in access control, CCTV and Intruder security products. “I worked my way up from house alarms with ADT to integrated systems looking after large skyscrapers in London at Frontline Security Solutions,” he says. “I find that my engineering background helps me to do my job efficiently and with a good idea of the bigger picture.”

The highly energetic and motivated sales manager says his motivation comes from a “belief in what I am doing and the desire to follow it through.” At the same time, he describes himself as a “light-hearted, friendly perfectionist.”

Asked if he has a motto or words that he uses a lot, he answers, “‘Do you know what I mean?’ I use that far too much!”

When not working, Tony enjoys a night out with friends, playing the guitar or practicing the Japanese martial art of jujitsu. He has a second dan (degree) black belt in jujitsu, which he says helps him to remain calm under pressure at work. “It teaches you discipline and control,” he says.
